At Small Miracles Orphans Home Ministries (SMOH) in Lwanda, Uganda, a powerful vision of sustainability and community partnership is taking root through the SMOH Farm Share program. This innovative initiative is about nurturing independence, fostering collaboration, and ensuring a more self-sufficient future for the children in our care.

The Farm Share program is a direct response to a critical need: a sustainable source of food. Every month, we face the challenge of running out of food, which is why we are working to build a self-sustaining project that will keep the children fed no matter what. Through this program, SMOH has forged unique partnerships with local families who are leveraging their skills to contribute directly to the well-being of the children in exchange for a free education.

Today, this inspiring program is thriving. We have over a dozen local families dedicated to crop sharing and a half-dozen families who have agreed to participate in our animal husbandry program. This isn't a traditional donation model; it's a mutually beneficial exchange of resources and commitment.

How the Farm Share Program Cultivates Self-Reliance:

Crop Sharing: Our partner families dedicate their land and labor to cultivating crops. In a 50/50 agreement, the harvest is split with SMOH, providing a vital source of food for the orphanage and the school.

Animal Husbandry: Local families raise livestock for us. We secure the animals, and they house and feed them. In return, they receive a share of the eggs and meat, while the rest goes to the orphanage. This supplements the children's diet with essential protein and empowers these families with a tangible way to invest in their children's future.

The Farm Share program embodies a powerful principle: community supporting community. It leverages the strengths and resources within Lwanda to create a sustainable ecosystem where education and basic needs are met through shared responsibility.
